Job Details

Under the direction of the Machining Supervisor, the responsibilities of the Machinist position includes reading work orders, knowledge of setup and safe operation of machines ( engine lathes, vertical boring mills, horizontal boring mills, saws and drill presses)also layout and measuring parts in accordance with product specification and production schedules


  • Reading Work Orders and drawings for product specifications, including dimensions and tolerance symbols, surface finishes, order of operations and material type and quantity.
  • Set up and operation of machine tools such as lathes, milling machines, horizontal and vertical boring mills, drilling machines and CNC machining centers, to machine components according to specifications.
  • Verifying conformance of machined components according to specifications, using precision measuring instruments, such as inside and outside micrometers, dial indicators, surface and thickness testing units.
  • Precision layout of bolt circles, keyways etc. according to product specifications.
  • Operates bench grinder to sharpen tools.
  • Collaborating with machining coordinator or delegate to resolve machining or problems.
  • To be aware of workplace hazards and be in compliance with safe work practices at all times 
  • May work in Assembly department to assist in assembling shafts and bearings as well as disassembly and re-assembly for service work.


  • Minimum ELT course or equivalent experience
  • Knowledge in general machining practices
  • Knowledge in safe machine operations
  • Experience on VBM’s and HBM’s an asset
  • Working in a heavy industrial manufacturing environment
  • Production line work
  • Operating forklift
  • Operating overhead cranes
  • Working alone and/or with a team

Education and Skills                                                                                

  • Read, write and speak English and good math skills. Grade 12 education preferred
  • Read and understand shop drawings
  • Red Seal Certification an asset
  • Knowledge of machining practices including cutting speeds and feeds, tooling and insert selection and basic safe machining practices
  • Strong mechanical aptitude
  • Confined Space training (an asset)
  • Forklift  experience (Certificate an asset)
  • Overhead crane experience (Certificate an asset)
