Job Details

Under the direction of the Welding & Fabrication Lead, the responsibilities of the Fitter/Welder includes fitting  and joining, fabricating, and repairing metals and other weld able material by applying  appropriate welding techniques in accordance with product specification and production schedules.

Requirements

Specific Duties                                                                                          

  • Lays out, cuts and shapes components as required based on drawings
  • Positions, aligns and fits components together
  • Clamps and tack-weld parts to secure in position for welding
  • Sets up equipment and welds parts, using mig or submerged welding equipment
  • Prep materials to be fit and welded

Experience                                                                                                 

  • Minimum 2 years’ experience fitting,  welding , cutting, grinding  working with heavy plate
  • Proficient in Metal Core Arc Welding ( Mig)  
  • Submerged Arc Welding (SAW) ( an asset)
  • Working in a heavy industrial manufacturing environment
  • Production line work
  • Operating forklift, class 4/5, Air Brake and Narrow Aisle Forklift( an asset)
  • Operating overhead cranes – 5T, 10T and 20T ( an asset)
  • Working  in confined space  (an asset)
  • Working in severe weather

Education and Skills                                                                                

  • Read, write and speak English - Grade 12 education preferred
  • Knowledge of applied mathematics; fractions, decimals
  • Read and understand shop/technical  drawings
  • Read , understand and follows Welding Procedures AWS D1.1 & D1.6
  • Good writing skills to complete documentation
  • Good communication skills
  • Minimum Level “C”  or equivalent 
  • Fabrication Certification (an asset)
  • Strong mechanical aptitude
  • Confined Space training (an asset)

Physical Demands                                                                        

  • Lift spool of welding wire shoulder height (up to 70 lbs.)
  • Lift bags of welding flux shoulder height (up to 70 lbs.)
  • Lift crane rigging chains/slings (up to 70 lbs.)
  • Lifting materials (up to 70 lbs.)
  • Replace oxygen, acetylene and inert welding gas
  • Crouching, kneeling stooping
  • Climb up, down and work off  platform ladders
  • Climb up and down scaffold
  • Climb in and out of forklifts
  • Work in and climb in and out of confined space
  • Operate 5”, 6” and 9” angle grinder safely.
  • Working in severe weather
  • Good visual and hand-eye coordination
